Peter M. Doyle, Ph.D.

Dr. Doyle has spent over a decade involved in research and clinical work focusing on eating disorders and weight management. He specializes in treating adults and adolescents with a range of eating and body image issues, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and sub-clinical eating disorders (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified). He is a faculty member of the Training Institute for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders and is a certified provider of Family-Based Treatment ("Maudsley Approach") for adolescent eating disorders. Dr. Doyle has extensive training and experience in the most current evidence-based treatments for eating disorders, anxiety, and depression, including cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and interpersonal psychotherapy. Born and raised in the Chicago area, he earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before continuing his studies, Dr. Doyle worked in a residential setting treating patients with chronic and persistent mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. With a desire to focus primarily on weight and eating disorder issues, he moved to the West coast to work and study at the Center for Eating & Weight Disorders at San Diego State University, where he received his Master’s degree in psychology with a specialization in eating disorders. Dr. Doyle then returned to Chicago and earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his predoctoral internship and Postdoctoral Fellowship at the internationally-renowned University of Chicago Eating & Weight Disorders Program, where he worked with adolescent and adult patients with eating disorders as well as pre- and post-bariatric surgery patients. Throughout his career, Dr. Doyle has been active in federally-funded research investigating the efficacy of various treatments for adults and adolescents with eating and weight-related disorders, the use of technology in the assessment of eating disorders, and family weight management programs. He has authored and co-authored numerous articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals and is an active member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Doyle supervises and trains other mental health providers in the treatment of eating disorders and delivers invited talks about eating disorders at national and international conferences. He is also a Clinical Instructor of Psychology at the University of Washington.
